Gifted children are wonderful; intuitive, curious, passionate, compassionate, at times driven, detail oriented and early on supporters of fairness, justice, order, and organization. But, they also often struggle in many areas of their lives. The inherent characteristics of gifted children can create challenges for them socially, emotionally, educationally and more, and many times show themselves in confusing and sometimes troubling behaviors. Gifted kids can seem oppositional, argumentative, noncompliant, impulsive, selfish, lacking in compassion, oblivious to rules and social cues, hyperactive, distracted, overdramatic, like they waste too much time daydreaming or are in a daze and out of step with other children and the world in general. They are often labeled as "too sensitive" and can be prone to throwing tantrums or having emotional meltdowns. The fact is, that any or all of these things can be related to normal inherent characteristics of gifted and or highly sensitive and highly creative children. Through Parenting Gifted Children Coaching you will learn that when these things are correctly identified, understood, utilized and supported, they can actually be turned into motivating and self-esteem building positives! Today, misdiagnosis is rampant among these children due to the fact that most medical professionals are not trained in gifted identification. Many medical and counseling professionals are not aware that normal characteristics of gifted, sensitive and creative children also mimic other disorders and disabilities. This has led to far too many children being assigned life altering labels such as; ODD, ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, and other behavioral, learning, or psychological disorders. Many "behavior problems" can be understood and or resolved just by identifying the characteristic or outside stimuli that causes or proceeds the behavior. As your personal Proactive Parenting Coach I can help you to identify what characteristics, emotions, sensitivities or intensities lie behind your child's confusing or trouble behaviors. After identifying what is causing your child's distress and subsequent behaviors, your coach will help you to learn new ways to parent; validate, instruct, question, teach and motivate your child in a way that teaches them emotional intelligence, grows self esteem and self regulation, encourages your child to comply with your requests, and better yet develop their own internal motivation. By learning about your child's unique intellectual and emotional makeup, understanding how they experience the world around them and why they have certain reactions to it, you will then be equipped with everything you need to become your child's emotional coach. In turn, you can help them to understand their own inherent makeup and needs, value and utilize their strengths, and build self esteem and valuable coping skills equipping them with every thing they need to go out and confidently pursue their own passions and dreams! For additional support and information about raising gifted kids, also see the Gifted Children 101 program where one individual characteristic found in gifted children is focused on per session, giving a more in depth look at how each may affect your child's views, perspectives, emotions, social interactions, education, behaviors and more.
